Sihanoukville is not a walking town. Motos are readily available in the town center, the Weather Station Hill and at Ochheuteal Beach. Fares have to be negotiated before hand as the moto drivers in Sihanoukville are reputed to be pretty aggressive. Expect to pay 3000-4000 riel from the town center to the beaches and 1000-2000 riel more at night, and only pay on arrival. It is advisable to travel with a moto driver who is familiar to you.
Tuk-tuk drivers are easier and more honorable to deal with even if they charge double the moto rate.. An alternative form of transport is to rent a motorbike from a guesthouse for the day. Recent regulations however require drivers of motorbikes to have a Cambodian driver’s license which is a long and tedious process. Consider electric bikes which can go up to 80km before needing a charge.
Taxi rates are posted at the bus station and are between US$6-US$7 from the depot to the beaches. | |
