High end Luxury Hotels

Doormen at the fabled Raffles Hotel Le Royal wear traditional costumes patterned on those of the Cambodian royal court. In keeping with a time honored tradition believed to bring good luck, they wear differently colored trousers for each day of the week. Passed on through generations, this tradition continues to remind the King what day of the week. The colonial style hotel has seen Phnom Penh’s rise and fall, and was the hangout for journalists from 1970-1975. Rates start at US$300 with suites at US$1,500.

Quay Hotel on the riverfront has 16 sleek and minimalist rooms, with aromatherapy infused spaces and a rooftop swimming pool. With suites between US$80-$140, it is a stylish spot to see and be seen in, Aman junkies can take comfort in graceful Amanjaya on the riverfront, with extra large rooms from US$100 a night, and Hotel Cambodiana, a Phnom Penh landmark, is once again one of the smartest addresses in town, having had a facelift. Accommodation from studios to three bedroom suites are available for short to long term stays. Rates start at US$140. Midrange Hotels

There are excellent hotels in this bracket between US$15-US$75 with amenities including air-conditioning, cable TV, DVD player and minibar. Popular Scandinavia  has been upgraded and fans enjoy its swimming pool, restaurant and an art gallery. Steeped in atmosphere, the Pavilion is in an elegant French villa offering bungalows and suites from US440-$85. Some of the rooms have private plunge pools while the garden also boasts an inviting salt water swimming pool.

 

Budget Guesthouses

Boeng Kak Lake is backpacker country and bargain rooms with shared facilities start at US$2. Accommodation here is pretty basic. Around Capitol Guesthouse, west of Monivong Blvd, rooms are available from US$3 and air-conditioned units for US$10 upwards.
